Gabriele Basilico presents his third individual exhibition at Oliva Arauna Gallery.
This exhibition features 22 photographs, black and white and colour, that were taken between the 25th of April and the 25th of May of 2007 in Silicon Valley by Basilico; they were showed, during the spring of 2008, at San Francisco’s Moma. It was the first time that an Italian photographer, working for an American museum, was allowed to carry out, totally freely, a documentation work in Silicon Valley, a territory characterize by its tech-industrial constructions. As in all his previous experiments, Basilico’s project is solved with a linear journey: a route around the different territory areas, seeing and gaining recently transformation phenomenons or even the current ones.
The artist decided to begin his trip at San Francisco-downtown and to take direction to the south. He crossed South Market district, Mission and Potrero until the city border and then he took route 101 to get through Silicon Valley and ended his trip at San José. The total distance he covered was around one hundred kilometres.
His aim was not to make a portrait of the numerous high-tech and computer companies that made famous this region all around the world, but to investigate the nature and typology of the installed models, comparing them with the fascinating urban image of San Francisco.
The pictures that are showed in this exhibition where specifically chosen between more than 600 photographs of 10x12 that compose this work, and they are shown for the first time in Europe at Oliva Arauna’s Gallery.
