Per Barclay
May 13 - June 19, 1999

Per Barclay was born in Oslo (Norway) and carried out his studies in Italy, where he exhibits frequently. For three years now he has been living and working in Paris.

Per Barclay’s photographs are an important part of his work - they are based on the reflection produced by liquid elements (oil, water and blood). The light and symmetry produces a sense of ambiguity in the photographed space.

These works are carried out in spaces selected by the artist where he floods the ground with oil to achieve a reflection of the real space. The project has been carried out specifically for the University of Valencia, in the celebration of its fifth centenary, and it will be exhibited in the IVAM under the title “Miradas distantes. Estudio general de la Universitat de València” (“Distant looks. General study of the University of Valencia”).

The exhibition will be made up of five of these large dimension photographs mounted on methacrylate. In this case, Barclay presents almost abstract images of the classrooms in the aforementioned university.
