Las ilusiones fantásticas
November 5, 2009 - January 16, 2010

Actually we are living inside a global crisis and inside a society characterized by the general disenchantment. I would like to begin my exhibition starting from a short film“ Las Ilusiones Fantásticas“ by Mèliés (1989), to raise a project in which I pretend  to uplift to the category of fantastic any kind of daydream (even if it seems so absurd) just for the fact being feeling.

Through a series of videos, drawings… I am trying to make a tribute to the animation movies, to the magic, the tricks, the special effects and above all a tribute to the ILLUSIONS. Because the illusions, even if they are reality or fantasy, losen or not, use to usually help us to survive to our everyday routine.

This show is, in short, a distortion inside another one, because the technique that I am using, the animation (that it is 25 frames per second which creates the optical effect of the movement) and the subject, the illusions, have a side of invention. By the way, technique and subject, more or less fictitious, both united, become a reiteration of the fantasy. Magic inside the magic as it made Méliès. At the same time, I am trying to remind the viewer and to myself, that even an illusion is something irreal or deceitful it has not to be false. The term that we vulgarly know as fantasize is, in so many times, a real need, a survival mechanism of the human being, and if we would lose our capacity of being excited we would be loosen in the world.
