Per Barclay
Ayúdame Ribera
September 6 - November 17, 2007

The Oliva Arauna Gallery is proud to present a new exhibition from Per Barclay, which includes a large installation and a photograph taken from his new series “Montalcino”.

In a room drenched in an almost blinding light, the winding path begins. Strange walking plastic transparent tubes that at once distort and unify the space, create a kind of chaos that completely opposes the minimalist space of the gallery.

Like an animated mass, this installation expands throughout all the rooms of the gallery in an image of reddish coloured liquid (somewhere between wine and blood). This movement, just like the strong colouring, accentuates the organic aspect already present due to the “breathing” that emanates from the suction pump. It develops a brute energy, curious and sometimes threatening, alternating between contrary rhythms: between a slow flow and strong streams. A breathing that suggests an analogy with the identification of a strange creature.

The presence of a new photograph “Mónica, Giulio, Marco e Matteo. Montalcino” makes the viewer, as always in the work of Per Barclay, find himself immersed in a strange world where the figurative elements are easily perceptible and recognisable but the multiplicity of the sensations and interpretations of the work remain open and almost infinite. The photo is a nod towards religious baroque painting where dynamic compositions, exaggerated passionate acts, saturated colours and a great expressive force are all combined together. This image helps to reinforce the very “physical” appearance sought by the artist for this exhibition.

This is not just a show to be observed. It is more a moving organism that through its way of working generates its own autonomy and a great closeness with the visitor.
